I love the Continental Display Edition - I got mine for Christmas, probably about 1969. Mine had the standard red and blue moulded walkers, but I'm now realising that later versions had classic heavyweights - and not always just standard red and blue. Have seen many now combining Ref 33 Bishop Auckland with either Ref 14 (Swindon, Yugoslavia etc.) or Ref 48 Spain. At last have picked one up within budget.
Inter Milan have unveiled a new signing amidst high security following the player's last minute decision to play for I Nerazzurri rather than local rivals AC Milan. The next Milan derby promises to be even more tense than usual.
Crystal Palace have smashed their transfer record with the signing of a new player for a new club record fee of over £2.00. The new addition to the squad means that the manager has the opportunity to field a full 11 man team for the first time.
West Ham beat Blackpool 2-1 in the play-off final at Wembley to secure their return to the Premier League at the first attempt. An 87th minute goal by Ricardo Vaz Te sealed the win for Sam Allardyce's team after Carlton Cole's opener put the Hammers ahead in the first half. Well done lads - Green, Reid, Tomkins, Demel (Faubert), Taylor, Noble, Nolan, O'Neil (McCartney), Collison, Vaz Te, Cole. Poor old Pompey - in administration, teetering on the brink of going out of business and firmly rooted at the bottom of the Championship. League One (Division 3 to old timers like me) beckons.....or worse.
Reference 53 is one of my favourites and my budget won't allow for a nice version, but this one sourced from a local car boot, is perhaps representative of the current state of Portsmouth FC - a right shambles. Took a punt on an ebay collection and the possible HWs turned out to be a Ref. 142 Nantes. Only 9 men and one has a severe lean, but all in all good value. See the new addition under Teams 100+.
At long last managed to find 4 Ref. 47 players to add to the 6 that I already owned. Always liked this reference and now Sweden can participate in the next Subbutopia World Cup.
Picked these two teams up from overseas - nice clean boxes and the Ref. 3 players look as though they have never been used, unlike my own glue-fest team. Originally intended to pass the Brazil team on, but the alternative base combination and the bizarre white team members may persuade me otherwise.
